The Orange Peel To Sell 250,000 Tickets
12/01/2005 - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ASHEVILLE, NC The Orange Peel Social Aid and Pleasure Club in downtown Asheville will sell its 250,000 ticket after little more than three years in business. While The Orange Peel is consistently ranked among the top 50 grossing live music clubs in the nation by Pollstar Magazine, it competes for this honor with venues in much larger markets including New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.
"I was initially surprised to learn that we had sold a quarter of a million tickets," says The Orange Peel's Jack Groetsch. "The last three years have gone by so quickly, it just didn't seem possible." The club uses a sophisticated ticketing system which carefully tracks each purchase, both online and at the box office.
Groetsch says the staff is planning an old-fashioned balloon drop and prize presentation when the 250,000th customer walks through the door. The prize will include free admission to the club for the entire year of 2006. "After 2006, we'll start counting down to 500,000," adds Groetsch, who foresees an acceleration of ticket sales in the coming year. This year's event will most likely occur during the Medeski, Martin & Wood show on Saturday, December 10, according to ticket sales projections.
Other milestones and statistics at The Orange Peel:
-by December 10, 2005 The Orange Peel will have sold close to 600,000 cups
