The Welsh metal-core band Bullet For My Valentine has spent most of the past two years taking over the world with massive U.K., European, U.S. and worldwide tours, sharing the stage with Guns N Roses, Metallica and Iron Maiden, playing the Main Stage at just about every rock festival on the planet, and seeing their 2006 debut album The Poison - an album London's daily The Sun called "One of the finest debut albums in rock history" - sell more than one-million copies worldwide – 350,000 in the U.S. alone – a very rare achievement for an emerging band. Back home, Bullet For My Valentine has graced the covers of the UK’s Kerrang!, Rock Sound, and Metal Hammer. They won Metal Hammer’s 2006 “Golden God Award” for Best British Band, and the 2006 Kerrang! Award for “Best UK Single” for their track “Tears Don’t Fall.” Here in America, Revolver magazine heralded the band “British Import of the Year,” and The Poison generated the hit singles “Tears Don’t Fall” and “All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me),” with the video for “All These Things I Hate” going to the #1 spot on MTV2. The band has toured North America three times, and in early 2007, they sold out their first headline trek.

Motion City Soundtrack, the most influential rock band in the history of the world, has been destroying the hopes and dreams of small children everywhere since 1997. This quintet of ex-Sears catalog hand models reside for the most part in Minneapolis, Minnesota; where it is always a pleasant 78 degrees and sunny. Errol Bumpstead, an 8 year old student at Wildwood Elementary school in Mahtomedi describes Motion City Soundtrack as, pretty good if you like that stuff. Justin Pierre, Josh Cain, Matt Taylor, Tony Thaxton, and Jesse Johnson comprise this feat of musical excellence. You, the reader of this brilliant paragraph of writing, formulated by a state college-paid education, can find out more about this academy award winning band as well as astrophysics and the whig party by visiting their website: www.motioncitysoundtrack.com. Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers is a Massachusetts’ trio made up of two distinct parts. In one corner stands the unmistakably jubilant personality of rock-n-roll’s The Sixers; in the other sits an authentic American songwriter in a period of profound growth. Rising triumphantly in the center is a band whose music is the perfect marriage of the two. A few months after the band formed, they experienced a harrowing flight to Florida where they collectively saw their lives flash before their eyes. The experience caused them to all do a lot of soul searching. The result is Glassjaw Boxer – a lasting letter to the world about family and friendships, released in July 2007. As a songwriter, Stephen emerged from the flight with a new found appreciation for everything and everyone in his life and his heartfelt songs reach out to those he cares most about. Delving into thoughts and issues we all struggle with on a daily basis. Glassjaw Boxer was met with widespread critical acclaim, named a Top 5 Album of 2007 by USA Today. With this success of Glassjaw Boxer under their belt, Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers are poised to make a triumphant return with the release of American Standard in early 2009. Recorded throughout the summer of 2008, American Standard is set to follow in the footsteps of Glassjaw Boxer as an intimate and sometimes rollicking look into the life of a songwriter, a friend, and a family man.

With a desire to continually evolve, yet retain the trademark heavy and technically-skilled sound that All That Remains has established with the band’s breakthrough album, 2004’s This Darkened Heart, Phil Labonte and company have done just that with The Fall of Ideals. Where the last record found the band intertwining heavy music, virtuoso solos, and unmatchable melody, All That Remains’ current collective goal is to build on elements that the last album only hinted at. “Everything we did on This Darkened Heart, we are turning up a notch,” Labonte says. “This disc will have some of the most aggressive, and some of the most friendly, pieces of music All That Remains has ever written.” There's no such thing as a band born to greatness. To succeed in the world of music there's a whole energy-sapping storm of hard work to plough through. Florida's Trivium has surely earned the major contender status that has been afforded them by the international media. After spending the last few years up to their necks in blood, sweat and tears, the formidable foursome, whose 2005 sophomore release (and Roadrunner debut) Ascendancy made them a hit with discerning music fans everywhere, have paid their dues. Relentless touring around the world with over 350 shows in the past two years has sharpened the band's live prowess, making their new album, The Crusade, one of the most hotly anticipated hard rock albums of 2006. The level of charisma and energy that they've harnessed since hitting the global gig circuit has built Matthew K. Heafy, Corey Beaulieu, Paolo Gregoletto and Travis Smith a huge international fan base that is as devoted as it is ever growing. |

Yard Dogs Road Showplus The Indigo Belly DanceSaturday, September 13th 9:00 PM (8:00 PM doors) $16.00 advance / $18.00 door Ages 16+ |
|
The Yard Dogs Road Show is a hobo cabaret, a living patchwork of vaudeville and rock and roll. In the enchanting land of stage show entertainment theirs is both pleasant and formidable terrain. They require a sensitivity to the subtle and the absurd. They lead the modern hobohemian on a visual and sonic journey through part of history that may or may not have existed – followed by an ambitious return to the emotional challenges of our punch-drunk contemporary world. It’s a true story on stage: sword swallowers, dancing dolls, fire eaters and sunset hobo poetry - all animated by the live sounds of the Yard Dogs cartoon heavy band. Yard Dogs Road Show is pure visual and sonic voodoo. Born from the saloon vaudeville that toured the Wild West in the late 1800's and slammed into the underworld of modern American road culture. The Yard Dogs create a timeless space for the union of ancient theatrical alchemy and modern pop culture. |

Maybe more than any of his previous albums, Xavier Rudd’s Dark Shades of Blue is a balance of darkness and light. That’s what the Australian singer-songwriter/one-man band/didgeridoo virtuoso hears in the disc. Plenty of each went into making the disc. Dark Shades of Blue is the first Rudd album in several years to be recorded in Australia. As a result, it bears the joy and peace of mind that comes with an often-touring artist that gets a chance to catch his breath. Recorded in Byron Bay on Australia’s eastern coast, it found the 30-year-old Rudd cutting tracks in the evening, before going to sleep under the stars, staring up at the Southern Cross and the Milky Way, his retriever curled up by his side. “Even though it’s a darker album,” says Rudd. “I think there is a lot of sunshine in the record. There’s brightness in the instruments, tonally, and I can hear the humidity in the didgeridoos, and in the guitar. I can hear that humidity, the warmth of the climate in Byron Bay.”

Since its inception in 1971, the Seldom Scene has thrived on playing bluegrass a little differently than everyone else. If other bands used a fiddler, the Seldom Scene used a Dobro; if others relied on old standards, the Seldom Scene played rock classics like J.J. Cale's "After Midnight." Through skilled musicianship and an urban approach to bluegrass, the Seldom Scene has become one of the most influential – if not the most influential – bluegrass band of the last 30 years.

Clutchplus The Sword, Graveyard & Never Got CaughtTuesday, September 23rd 8:00 PM (7:00 PM doors) $18.00 advance / $20.00 door Ages 18+ |

So, you think you know Clutch, right? They’re a little punk? Well, yes, but then again…they’ve a hint of metal? True. However, don’t they also have a touch of the stoner about them? Sure. And while we’re at it, let’s not forget the southern rock influence. Come on, you know what that means. Clutch are genuine individuals, icons for musical excellence who confound the modern desire for putting everything into neat boxes. They’re a classic rock band with an ultra modern sweep. In the virtual two decades, since they first came to everyone’s attention, the Maryland marvels have constantly evolved and revised their music, never standing still long enough for anyone to put a critical saddle onto their thoroughbred ideals – this bronco ain’t ever been broken in, nor broken down. From the ‘Pitchfork’ EP in 1991, Clutch have set standards, never followed trends. They’ve released a succession of urgently inspirational albums, from 1993’s ‘Transnational Speedway League: Anthems, Anecdotes And Undeniable Truths’ through ’95’s ‘Clutch’, onwards to ‘The Elephant Riders’ (1998), ‘Pure Rock Fury’ (2001), ‘Blast Tyrant’ (2004) and ’05’s ‘Robot Hive/Exodus’. But their moment has truly arrived with new album ‘From Beale Street To Oblivion’ – a record that won’t so much fit into a new era in rock, as confidently define it.

Their music is difficult to define, straddling both world and rock, and often imbued with timeless Hispano – classical influences. The fire in it comes from their life-long passion for metal music. This spring, "Rodrigo y Gabriela," beat both the Arctic Monkeys AND Johnny Cash to number one in the Irish charts.

Theory Of A Deadmanplus Black Stone Cherry & The Parlor MobSaturday, September 27th 9:00 PM (8:00 PM doors) $16.00 advance / $18.00 door All Ages |
Theory of a Deadman had a simple but daunting goal for its third album: to make the greatest record possible. "I always try to remind the guys and myself that there are 20 bands lined up behind us just waiting for a chance to take our place," says frontman Tyler Connolly. "So that means we had to go in there and make a great record." With Scars & Souvenirs, the Vancouver trio has hit its mark. The balanced 13-track effort is the polished and passionate testament to seven years of hard work, heavy touring and diligent attention to its craft. From the swirling grind of "By the Way" to the nasty snarl of "Crutch" to the soaring melodicism of "Not Meant to Be" and "Wait For Me," Scars & Souvenirs is a broad-reaching endeavor that puts Connolly, guitarist Dave Brenner and bassist Dean Back high in the rock pantheon, achieving creative growth without sacrificing the hard-hitting power that got them here in the first place. "We really dug hard on this one," Connolly notes. "The longer you're in a band, the more you write songs, the better you get. We've had such a great opportunity to figure out what to do better, how to write a better song and keep building and building. That's exciting for us."

"It's a long way to the top if you want to Rock 'n Roll." That line from the AC/DC classic, "It's a Long Way to the Top," rings true for many legendary rock and metal bands who have persevered and overcome years of adversity to accomplish world-wide recognition. Writing good music is just one part of being successful. As difficult as that can be, creating and adhering to a sound marketing and business strategy is an equally important component to a musician’s success. Those very different challenges must be accounted for in a musician's vision if they are to have a remote shot of making a living as a songwriter. The clearer the vision, the clearer the path to be taken, although vision and marketing alone don't guarantee a successful journey. A myriad of intangibles must also come into play at exactly the right times. The few uncompromising musicians who pride themselves on the integrity of their craft can surely plan to encounter a path less traveled and sewn with more mountains and valleys than the road clogged with chameleons sacrificing their visions to cash in on the current fads. For two decades, Jon Schaffer and his vehicle, Iced Earth, have taken the long, high road of non-compromise to reach the rarified air breathed by those few who enjoy lasting commercial success writing and performing music in the Heavy Metal genre.

Sevendustplus TaprootTuesday, September 30th 7:00 PM (6:00 PM doors) $20.00 advance / $22.00 door Ages 18+ |
When Sevendust entered Tree Sound Studio in Atlanta to write their seventh studio album, Sevendust VII: Hope and Sorrow, they had no real idea what they wanted. They just knew what they didn’t want. In the past, the group had gone in with a clear objective and spent their time putting methodically together the pieces to achieve their goal. This time, they chose to be guided by the element of surprise -- to collectively and spontaneously go with whatever they were feeling at the moment and eventually wind up at a common destination. ‘No only were we on different pages, I think we were in different books when we first started out,” says guitarist John Connolly, then laughs. “We were all coming from different musical perspectives and everything was a big question mark. We didn’t know what the record would sound like until we were almost finished with it, and I think it turned out to be a much better record for that reason.” There’s no question that Sevendust VII: Hope and Sorrow is one of the band’s strongest and most musically diverse albums to date. Sevendust have always explored various shades of darkness and light, but on the new disc they delve into a new spectrum of vivid colors. “Inside” is mechanized and furious, incorporating industrial samples into framework of chugging guitars, slamming beats and scathing vocals before taking flight with one of vocalist Lajon Witherspoon’s signature choruses. “Hope” intertwines melancholy piano, sparse, repeating guitar swells, heart-rending strings, and soul-searing vocals between volleys of scream-infested animosity. And “Prodigal Son” is a gorgeous string-laden blend of atmosphere and melody that’s custom-made for rock radio, but unlike anything else on the air. Music video for "Prodigal Son" |
