Rilo Kiley’s audiences have a strong tendency
to fall in love on the spot. Perhaps it’s their beaming faces or
laid-back, admirable West Coast attitudes. Or maybe it’s just their
uncanny knack for designing nuanced pop songs and performing them with
flair. Maybe it’s lead singers Jenny Lewis and Blake Sennet‘s adorable onstage banter and scissors-sharp
wit. Whatever that little something extra is, Los Angeles, CA’s Rilo Kiley has it times ten. |

Squirrel Nut Zippersplus The Old CeremonySaturday, September 29th 9:00 PM (8:00 PM doors) $18.00 advance / $20.00 door Ages 18+

Chapel Hill, North Carolina-based band, The Squirrel Nut Zippers, take early American swing music and apply punk rock’s DIY attitude to conjure a unique brand of modern lounge jazz. The band's first album, The Inevitable (1995), garnered the attention of National Public Radio, which was the band's first source of widespread acclaim. Their second album, Hot (1996), caught the attention of the modern music scene and was certified platinum in the fall of 1997. Although they have often received credit for the swing music revival of the early ‘90s, the Zippers more accurately fuse Harlem Hot music with klezmer. "Hell," their biggest hit single, peaking at No. 13, was in the style of 1930s calypso. The Squirrel Nut Zippers have a large cult following despite limited airplay and traditional success. After a four-year hiatus and various solo side projects by members (Jim Mathus, Katharine Whalen and others), the band has reunited to perform their first live gigs together since 2000. |
